Tunet – a Community Cultivation Project Supporting Integration

Roskilde Nord Housing Association, in collaboration with Rockwool and Roskilde Municipality, has constructed new, well‑designed small basic homes for young people, refugees, and families.
In addition to the four family units and 20 refugee units, the property includes 10 one‑room and 28 two‑room youth apartments for students. Only the youth apartments can be applied for here.

The two‑room apartments are open for applications from everyone, but couples have priority.

The homes are built as small individual units grouped in clusters surrounding an open communal area with a large greenhouse that serves as a community house.

You will be living in a unique residential area with a focus on nature, community, and a certain level of self‑sufficiency, where residents participate in practical communal activities. Tunet is attractive to resourceful young people who enjoy spending time in nature and appreciate the opportunity to take part in gardening.

You

Tunet is a special type of housing—an exceptional opportunity for some, but not the right match for everyone.

Everyone can apply, but you must:

  • - be able to take part in an active community with the other residents in the department and take shared responsibility for the operation of your own dwelling and the department’s common areas.

  • - preferably have experience with volunteer work so you are equipped to participate actively in the social community within the department, which aims, among other things, to support residents in the “refugee homes” in becoming active citizens.

If you wish to be part of an integration‑supportive cultivation community that involves planning open events, participating in communal work, and taking on increased responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the department and your home, this housing option is a good match for you.

You should be aware that you are expected to meet the above criteria throughout your entire tenancy. If you fail to participate in communal work, a fee will be added to your rent. Repeated lack of participation may lead to termination of your tenancy.

If the home is not maintained, or maintenance is insufficient, a professional contractor will be called upon your move‑out to restore the home to proper condition. The cost will be charged to you.

There are guidelines, working groups, and a board that can support and advise you in your tasks. If you have the will and desire to be part of this unique community, you will receive the necessary help to participate in the working fellowship. The work contributed by residents also helps keep the rent in this relatively new housing department at a reasonable level.

The Area

The homes are located between fields and in close proximity to a residential neighborhood with a daycare center. Bus 220 stops right at Tunet and runs through RUC to Trekroner Station.

Tunet is 500 meters from RUC and University College Absalon. It is 1.5 km from Trekroner Station and shopping options, and 2 km from Trekronerskolen.

Six kilometers from Tunet is the creative district Musicon, surrounded by HTX, Roskilde Technical School, and Zealand Academy of Technologies and Business—30 minutes away by public transport.

Practical Information

  • The homes do not include a stove or refrigerator, but they are prepared for installation.
  • Electricity is paid on account.
  • Water and heating are paid directly to the provider.
